چکیده

A model for single-phase flow in porous media that are hierarchically fissured in regular patterns was derived by a recursive asymptotic expansion technique in [16] and part of [24]. This work rigorously justifies that model. Through recursive homogenization, we extend the doubleporosity model in [5], which has one fracture system and a matrix (rock) block system, to a triple-porosity model that has two levels of fracture systems and a matrix block system. See [9, 22] for an introduction to homogenization theory. Then, a multiple-porosity model with N levels of fracture systems and a matrix block system is derived, resulting in a general (N + 1)-scale model. A dual-porosity concept was first introduced in [8, 25] using a specific transmissibility function (see [7]) for the interaction of the matrixfracture flow. For petroleum-reservoir engineering problems, a new treatment of the coupling of the flow through the fracture system with that in the matrix system was introduced over the past two decades in [2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19]. The models discussed in this work are based on these ideas. Our focus on the nested levels of fracture systems is appropriate for further studies on high-level nuclear waste transport

Comparison of Thermal Dispersion Effects for Single and two Phase Analysis of Heat Transfer in Porous Media

The present work involves numerical simulation of a steady, incompressible forcedconvection fluid flow through a matrix of porous media between two parallel plates at constanttemperature. A Darcy model for the momentum equation was employed. The mathematical model forenergy transport was based on single phase equation model which assumes local thermal equilibriumbetween fluid and solid phases. ...

Investigation of Underground Gas Storage in a Partially Depleted Naturally Fractured Gas Reservoir

In this work, studies of underground gas storage (UGS) were performed on a partially depleted, naturally fractured gas reservoir through compositional simulation. Reservoir dynamic model was calibrated by history matching of about 20 years of researvoir production. Effects of fracture parameters, i.e. fracture shape factor, fracture permeability and porosity were studied. Results show...

Compositional Modeling of Discrete-Fractured Media Without Transfer Functions by the Discontinuous Galerkin and Mixed Methods

In a recent work, we introduced a numerical approach that combines the mixed-finite-element (MFE) and the discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods for compositional modeling in homogeneous and heterogeneous porous media. In this work, we extend our numerical approach to 2D fractured media. We use the discrete-fracture model (crossflow equilibrium) to approximate the two-phase flow with mass transfer...

A New Approach for Constructing Pore Network Model of Two Phase Flow in Porous Media

Development of pore network models for real porous media requires a detailed understanding of physical processes occurring on the microscopic scale and a complete description of porous media morphology. In this study, the microstructure of porous media has been represented by three dimensional networks of interconnected pores and throats which are designed by an object oriented approach. Af...

A multiple-continuum model for simulating single-phase and multiphase flow in naturally fractured vuggy reservoirs

a r t i c l e i n f o The existence of vugs or cavities in naturally fractured reservoirs has long been observed. Even though these vugs are known for their large attribution to reserves of oil, natural gas, or groundwater, few quantitative investigations of fractured vuggy reservoirs have been conducted. In this paper, a multiple-continuum conceptual model is presented, based on geological dat...
